Police Band Unit
A key tradition among Police forces worldwide is the need for a vibrant brass band to liven up occasions – state and private. Rwanda has not been left behind in this quest to prove its mettle in giving a top-notch all-round service.
The Rwanda National Police (RNP) band provides crucial entertaining to guests at functions organized by the Police as well as others including National Day celebrations, private weddings and state functions. Visiting dignitaries coming to Rwanda can be sure to get top-range music from the well-honed brass band, complete with color and pomp. The Police band was established in 2000 with the aim of providing quality entertainment to members of the public and at different functions, receiving and accompanying guests to the airport, as well as providing music to the institution at its own functions, both private and those involving government.
This has boosted the appeal of such functions. The skills and talent display of the Police band will blow away the mental cobwebs as you immensely have the time of your life. The band music and parade is a sign of honor and respect for guests and events they grace.
The band is not limited to ecstatic events only, for on several occasions it has been used to honor different people with somber music at funerals. In its line of duty, the Police band is expected to master all national anthems for all states of the world. It is due to their diplomatic requirement to play both the national anthems of the hosting country and of the visiting delegation.
The band has also provided music for graduations at different universities, embassies, as well as pass-out parades for Police officers.
Challenges have been noted here as well, though. These include a lack of all the necessary instruments that would give life to our work and also develop the talent more. This we will do by attending external courses to better our skills.
The band also needs ICT equipment to facilitate song composition, recording and teaching. Last but not least, we require more ceremonial uniforms to enhance our professional image as we play and perform.
