Traditional healer arrested for rape
Police in Ruhango district, on Tuesday arrested a man for raping someone’s wife . The suspect, John Singirankabo is detained at Nyamagana Police station.
According to reliable sources in Ruhango sector, The victim (name withheld due to security reasons) invited Singirankabo, a well known traditional healer to her house her house seeking cure for her failure to conceive after two year of marriage. Singirankabo was also welcomed by the victim’s husband (name withheld), who later left for work.
An hour later the husband returned home to find Singirankabo raping his wife. He had sprayed her with substance that knocked Nyiramutarambirwa unconscious.
Acting on impulse, Dusabimana locked the two of them in the house and called neighbors to bear witness. He then notified police who intervened.
The victim was rushed to Kabgayi Hospital where preliminary tests indicated that indeed she had been raped. Meanwhile Singirankabo denied any wrongdoing.
Once found guilty, Singirankabo will be charged on two accounts of rape and Impersonation. Regarding rape Singirankabo is likely to be sentenced between 5 and 10 years according to article 336 of Rwanda penal code. He is also likely to face charges of impersonation where he is likely to be sentenced between one month and two years according to article 217 of the penal code.
Police Spokesperson Superintendant Theos Badege urged Rwandans to seek proper scientific medical assistance instead witchcraft. “The decentralization of health services today allows easy access to health assistance and health insurance covers all so people should not opt for witchcraft for cure,” Superintendent Badege said.
Badege further noted that Police has taken a tough standpoint on criminals of any nature and the law will be enforced on them.
