Two arrested for defiling

Police in Rwamagana district, on Friday arrested two men for raping a six year old girl.

Suspects Cyrille Karimunda 23 and Francois Ngerageze 27 are detained at Kigabiro Police station.

According to Rwamagana Police sources, Karimunda was seen on Friday leading the six year old Divine Mbabazi to Ngerageze’s house.  When she later returned home, her mother quizzed her about her whereabouts and the childsaid she had been at Ngerageze’s house.

Suspecting foul play,the mother rushed her daughter to Gishali health center and preliminary tests confirmed that indeed Mbabazi had been raped. She was immediately transferred to Rwamagana hospital for further tests and treatment.

Both suspects denied raping Mbabazi. Ngerageze claims he saw Karimunda bring a girl to his house but doesn’t know what happened while Karimunda denied having anything to do with the girl.

Police Spokesperson Superintendent Theos Badege condemned the crime calling the culprits actions inhuman.“Their actions are unspeakable, such criminals don’t deserve to be part of our society,” Badege said.  

He noted that Police has taken a tough stance on rape and call on society to be part of the fight against the crime.

“Children are the future generation of the country, it is therefore paramount that they are protected”,Supt Badege said. He called on parents to always spare time from their dailywork schedule and tend to their children.

The suspects are set to be sentenced to life imprisonment according to article  34 paragraphy two of law nο 27/2001 of 28/04/2001 relating to rights and protection of the child against violence.
