Security Minister tours Police departments

The Minister for Internal Security Sheik Musa Fazil Harelimana tours the Rwanda

The Minister for Internal Security Sheik Musa Fazil Harelimana today officially visited Rwanda National Police headquarters and toured several of its departments.

Guided by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Emmanuel K. Gasana, the minister visited the office of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, several Commissions including Operations, Finance and Criminal Investigative Department among others.

Commissioners heading the visited departments discussed activities under their portfolio, challenges they face and the way forward.

The minister's visit focused on observing how Police undertake their duties at the general headquarters.

"I have been to Police general headquarters many times during different occasions but today is my first day to inspect police activities in a more profound way", Harelimana said.

The visit is also in line with the Prime Minister's decree passed on September 19, 2011 which regulates the structure and nature of the Ministry of Internal Security.

"Police has registered several achievements especially in the sector of community policing", Harelimana noted.

He observed that overall, the achievements registered by the institution deserve above 90% score.

He however called for more efforts in areas such as training, increase of logistical equipments and infrastructures.

The minister pledged continued advocacy to different stakeholders to ensure that the institution gets the required support.

The Director of Cabinet in the Prime Minister's Office, Eugene Barikana commended RNP for its remarkable achievements.

"These achievements have been due to its clear vision and strategies," Barikana said. He pointed out that Police is currently highly regarded by the public due to its improved service delivery.

He said that the institution is getting positive commentary on media such as radios as well as social media like twitter and facebook.

In his remarks, IGP Gasana acknowledged the minister's visit saying it was crucial in boosting the forces' morale to further render effective services.

Gasana further said that Police will implement the minister's recommendations in a bid to build a force that will continue to maintain security for all.
