Police Rewards Rweru CPC’s for their role in community policing
Twenty three community Policing committees (CPC's) members In Rweru sector, Bugesera district were yesterday rewarded with a bicycle each for their contribution to community policing. Rweru sector has been recognized as one of the best sectors that have used community policing committees to prevent crimes.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Emmanuel K. Gasana acknowledged the efforts of Rweru CPC's in combating crime. He underscored the effective sharing of information as the reason that crime in Rweru has reduced.
"I assure you that Rwanda National Police is ready to reward you more and in the near future telephones shall be offered to CPCs to facilitate in exchanging information with security operatives and hence ensure a crime free society," IGP Gasana told Rweru residents.
He further said that it is difficult for any society to develop while there is insecurity. Felecien Bimenyimana, a 35 years Rweru resident told of his ordeal when his bicycle spare part shop was invaded and spare parts worth Frw 400,000 stolen.
"After the incident I thought I was finished but just in one week I got back my merchandize," Bimenyimana said. This was possible due to the collaboration between CPC's and security organs.
The Governor of Eastern Province, Dr Aissa Kirabo thanked Rweru residents for their efforts in fighting crime and urged them to continuously cooperate with Police to solve their own problems.
Louis Rwagaju, the Mayor of Bugesera district explained that CPC's had identified all zones and cites where most crimes took place and shared the information with Police.
This move led to the arrest of criminals and hence significant reduction of crime in the sector. "This Sector has been successful and cooperative in helping police arrest criminals including illicit brew dealers, marijuana pushers, bandits and rapists who had troubled residents" Rwagaju said.
