Police finds travelers money sends it to him in Bujumbura
Joseph Bizima, the regional coordinator of Food Agriculture Organization (FAO) forgot US$ 408 at the security check point at Kigali International airport while travelling to Burundi. He found out on his arrival in Bujumbura.
"I was very disappointed. I had no money on me so i decided to ask Rwandair office in Bujumbura to check whether I had left the money at the security check point in Kigali. However I had no hope of getting the money back," Bizima said.
The money had been picked by Police constable Jeannette Mujawamariya while on duty at the security check point.
She tried to locate the owner but he had already left for Burundi. "I reported the money to my superiors after failing to locate the owner but I had noted the name and phone numbers of the owner," PC Mujawamariya said.
With the help of Rwandair, Police sent Bizima's money to Bujumbura on the evening flight .
"I was surprised when I was called to pick my money at the Rwandair offices in Bujumbura," Bizima said. "I am proud of our police force and would like to urge all travelers to always be careful with their property especially money," He added
Superintendent Theos Badege, the Police spokesperson noted that the incident indicates the entrenchment of integrity in the Police force.
He also urged travelers to always ensure that they don't forget their belongings at security checkpoints.
