Rwanda National Police (RNP) reminds the general population that beliefs and activities that create noise pollution and undermine people’s safety and well-being are illegal and punishable by the law.

Article 600 of penal code, article 37 of the organic law determining the modalities of protection, conservation and promotion of environment in Rwanda, define and penalize those who cause noise pollution either during the day or at night.

RNP, therefore, appeals to everyone, local institutions and security organs to cooperate to fight and prevent such illegal activities to ensure safety and security, with the ultimate goal of preventing repercussions like imprisonment, fines and confiscating sound equipment that might arise out of these unlawful businesses.

Those affected or knows where communities are disturbed by such unlawful businesses are also urged to immediately inform Police on a toll-free line – 112.

Done at Kigali on July 18, 2015.
