A man suspected to be part of the series of motorcycle theft was arrested in Rusizi District on Friday, July 3.
Ngabonziza Daniel, 29, was arrested in Muganza Sector with a motorcycle AG100 registration number RC 129C, which had been reported stolen the previous night.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Bonaventure Twizere Karekezi, the Police spokesperson for the Western region, said that the motorcycle was stolen from one Habineza Zabron, after thieves broke into his house where it was.
"It is alleged that in the night of July 2, Ngabonziza broke into the house located in Biturusu trading centre, Kigenge cell of Nzahaha Sector, and stole the motorcycle," CIP Karekezi said.
"He used a forged key to open the door, stole the motorcycle and hid it Muganza Sector also in Rusizi," he added.
Habineza realised the following morning that his motorcycle had been stolen. He immediately reported the alleged theft to law enforcement organs.
"During the search, Police received information from a residents in Muganza Sector, about a motorcycle that was brought and kept at their house by Ngabonziza.
The residents reported after hearing that there was a motorcycle, which was stolen the previous night and good suspicious," the spokesperson explained.
Indeed, the motorcycle was found to be the same stolen the previous night belonging to Habineza. The suspected thief was also located and arrested.
CIP Karekezi thanked the residents for facilitating the recovery of the motorcycle and arresting the suspected thief.
"It's sad that as the government is fighting the pandemic of Coronavirus, others are derailing the efforts and engaging in criminal activities," CIP Karekezi said, urging residents to report people, who violate the directives on COVID-19 and engaging in criminal tendencies.
It is the fifth motorcycle to be stolen and recovered since last month involving eight suspected thieves.
