A suspected drug trafficker was intercepted on Friday in Rulindo District with a sack of cannabis.

Muhire Landry Bonfils, 23, was en route to Kigali from Rubavu when he was arrested at a Police post at Nyirangarama as he tried to guise in an attempt to beat security.

Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Alexis Rugigana, Police spokesperson for the Northern Region, said that the sack of narcotics that Muhire was caught with contained 2000 pellets of cannabis.

"Muhire was in a public bus from Rubavu heading to Kigali, when he saw traffic Police officers in a distance, he panicked and told the driver to stop for him to disembark from the bus," CIP Rugigana said.

"The driver got suspicious since Muhire's ticket indicated that he was going to Kigali, and decided to inform traffic Police officers, they stopped him and searched his luggage only to find that it was full of cannabis. He was immediately taken into custody for the crime," he added.
