Rwanda, Zambia Police forces hold bilateral meeting

Rwanda National Police (RNP) and Zambia Police Service (ZPS) held a bilateral meeting on Monday, October 19, to strengthen the existing ties in cross-border policing matters.

The meeting held at the RNP General Headquarters in Kacyiru was co-chaired by the two Police Chiefs; IGP Munyuza and his Zambian counterpart, Mr. Kakoma Kanganja.

IGP Munyuza noted that the visit in the middle of COVID-19 pandemic signifies the level of friendship and commitment to the policing cause between the two Police forces. Read more


PEACEKEEPING: UNMISS hails Rwanda FPUs for exemplary service

The Police Commissioner of the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), Madam Unaisi Lutu Vuniwaqa commended Rwandan peacekeepers under the Formed Police Units (FPU)s for the “job well done” during their tour of duty.

Madam Vaniwaqa was speaking on Thursday, October 22, at the function in Juba to present a “Certificate of Appreciation” to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Claude Tembo, the contingent commander of Rwanda FPU-2 and a “Letter of Commendation” to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jackline Urujeni, the commander of Rwanda FPU-3. Police football clubs undergo COVID-19 test ahead of new season

The Rwanda National Police (RNP) football clubs have stepped up preparations for football's return. 

Players and the coaching staff for the senior team—Police FC—and the junior team—Interforce—on Friday, October 23,  underwent COVID-19 test ahead of joining the residential camp in preparation for the 2020/2021 local football competitions. Read more


KIGALI: Police burst traffickers of skin bleaching products

Rwanda National Police (RNP) has uncovered a house in Rwezamenyo Sector, Nyarugenge District, which was being used as a store for trafficked skin bleaching products as well as other body creams smuggled into Rwanda through porous borders.

At about 11am on Thursday, October 22, Police officers raided the house where skin whitening lotions, soaps and oils that filled three pick-up vehicles, were recovered.

Three people including the owner of the store identified as Eric Mizero, one of his suppliers Lousie Sinumvayabo and another dealer called Jesca Kamaliza, were arrested in the process. Read more


Police impersonators arrested in operations against driver’s license scam

Rwanda National Police (RNP) arrested four people belonging to the same ring that allegedly forges and issues fake driver's license.

The four suspects, who were guising as Police officers, were arrested in separate operations conducted in City of Kigali.

They are Hamdun Murenzi, 45, said to be the head of the group; Francois Kalinijabo, 36, Philomène Uzamukunda, 45, and Adam Bora, 25.

Uzamukunda, the only woman in the group, was masquerading as 'Afande CIP Philomène. Read more


Rutsiro: Suspected illegal mineral dealers arrested with fake currency notes

Rwanda National Police (RNP) arrested two suspected illegal mineral dealers in Rutsito District, on Thursday, who were also found in possession of counterfeit money amounting to Frw42, 000.

Munyakinaga Samuel, 33, and one only identified as Ndayambaje, 26, were arrested in Murunda sector on Thursday, October 22, with the fake notes in the denominations of Frw1,000 and Frw2,000. Read more


Nyagatare: Duo arrested over attempted bribery

Rwanda National Police (RNP), on October 20, arrested Zainab Mukarubibi, 48, and Fred Mugabo, 40, for allegedly attempting to bribe security personnel in Karangazi Sector, Nyagatare District. They were caught red-handed giving a bribe of Frw100, 000.

According to Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Hamdun Twizeyimana, the Police spokesperson for the Eastern region, the bribe was meant to influence the release of Mukarubibi’s son, who was arrested recently in connection with drug related crimes. Read more


Kirehe: One arrested over destruction of electricity infrastructure

Police in Kirehe District arrested one Emmanuel Hakizimana, 32, for allegedly vandalizing electricity infrastructure and stealing lightning rods.

Hakizimana was arrested red-handed in Gatore Sector, Cyunuzi Cell, where he was found digging up electric rods.

He was also found with other metals and tubes, which he allegedly stole from pylons, according to Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Hamdun Twizeyimana, the police spokesperson for the Eastern region.Read more


Suspected robber arrested in Rusizi

A man suspected of ambushing and robbing people at night in Rusizi District was arrested on Tuesday, October 20.

Eric Tuyizere, 35, was arrested a day after he ambushed and robbed a woman identified as Xaverine Nyiramitero, 53, of Frw225,000 in Sumuyamana Village, Kinyaga cell in Nkaka sector. Read more
