Driver’s license tests to resumes in November

The Rwanda National Police (RNP) department of Traffic and Road Safety will, on November 2, resume its provisional and definitive driver’s license testing services.

RNP spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera, said that the date and month of conducting the tests in provinces and districts, will vary.

“On November 2, we will resume the driver’s license tests, both provisional and definitive, in City of Kigali. On that day, 89 people, who are among those that, had successfully registered and booked for provisional test in Kigali before the temporary closure of the service in March due to the pandemic of COVID-19, will do their tests at Muhima Computer-based driver’s testing centre,” CP Kabera said.

He added: “On the same day of November 2, tests for candidates, who registered for definitive license in Gasabo District, will start and end on November 7; in Kicukiro District, definitive tests will be conducted between 9th and 14th November while in Nyarugenge they will be conducted between 16th and 18th November.”

At least 1,537 candidates have been listed in the initial batch that will do definitive tests in Gasabo (601), Kicukiro (581) and Nyarugenge (355) as well as 89 others from the three districts, who will sit for the provisional tests.

“As we resume these services, we have also put into consideration the government directives and other guidelines meant to prevent the spread of the pandemic of COVID-19, and for that reason, priority was based on first-come-first served, meaning that those who had registered and booked first before the temporary suspension of the services, are given priority.”

For those, whose provisional permits expired during the period of the temporary closure of the services, CP Kabera said, they will also be facilitated to do definitive tests.

Meanwhile, driving schools have also been given green light to resume operations for practical instructions “with immediate effect”, with theoretical lessons also set to resume on November 2.

CP Kabera reminded all players, including aspiring drivers and owners of driving schools, to ensure maximum compliance with the COVID-19 prevention directives and other recommended safety guidelines like washing or sanitizing hands, social distancing and wearing a face mask, among others.
