On Friday, August 16, Rwanda National Police (RNP) engaged in voluntary blood donation drive to support the national blood bank.
Some 81 Police officers operating at the RNP General Headquarters, Kacyiru donated blood in an exercise supervised by Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC).
The RNP spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Boniface Rutikanga, said that beyond physical security, the force also has the responsibility to ensure health of Rwandans.
"We thank all the officers, who have participated in the voluntary blood donation to save lives."
"The mandate of Rwanda National Police does not end with the physical security of the people; it goes extra miles in other human security activities to improve their welfare, including their health. Donating blood to save those in need is also part of that security," ACP Rutikanga said.
The voluntary blood donation exercise, he added, is conducted periodically in different RNP units across the country as part of the partnership agreement between the RNP and RBC.
Irene Uwamahoro from RBC, said that the exercise was smooth, and thanked officers, who turned up to donate blood.
"Today, we had new blood donors as well as those who came more than once. We had a big number of female donors, and we commend this humanitarian spirit," said Uwamahoro, adding that a blood donor can do it once every year.
This is the third time this year that Rwanda National Police has engaged in voluntary blood donation exercise.
