COVID-19: New directives to come into force tomorrow

The new national directives on containing the COVID-19 pandemic came into force this Tuesday, February 23.

The new measures were adopted by the Cabinet meeting held on February 19.

Under the new nationwide directives, movements are prohibited between 8pm-4am, all businesses must close by 6pm; public offices will resume with essential staff with no more than 30% capacity while other employees continue working from home on rotational basis.  Read more...

Police arrest two suspected fraudsters in Kigali

Rwanda National Police (RNP) arrested two men in City of Kigali, who were masquarading as currency traders and defrauding unwitting members of the public.

The suspected duo of Omar Kanyemera alias Byamungu, 45, and Gregoire Mugiraneza, 35, was showed to the media at the Police metropolitan headquarters in Remera, Gasabo District on Saturday, February 27.

Police parade three over forgery of movement clearance permit

Rwanda National Police (RNP) paraded three people on Saturday, February 27, suspected of forging a movement clearance permit to transport passengers upcountry.

They include one Jackson Nkeshimana, 27, a conductor of the bus RAC 669T, which he had hired to transport 17 traders operating in various markets in Kigali, to Gatsibo District to buy goods in Rwagitima market.

Two others are Jean Paul Hakizimana and Alphonse Hitimana, who work in cyber cafes in Muhima Sector, Nyarugenge District.  Read more...

KAYONZA: Police recovers stolen money

Law enforcement organs in Kayonza District recovered Frw1,250,000, which is part of the money that was stolen from a farmer in Nyamirama Sector, recently.

The money amounting to Frw1,555,000 was stolen from one Oliver Kayitankore, 48, on February 21.  Read more...

RUBAVU: Fire and Rescue Brigade puts out fire at school dormitory

The Rwanda National Police (RNP) Fire and Rescue Brigade, in the early morning of Thursday, managed to put out fire that broke out of one of the dormitories at Gisenyi Adventist School (GASS) located in Gisenyi Sector, Rubavu District.

The Commanding Officer for Fire and Rescue Brigade, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Jean Baptiste Seminega, said the fire broke out of the boys dormitory at about 2:30am.  Read more...

RUTSIRO: 10 arrested in operations against illegal mining

The ongoing Police operations against illegal mining activities led to the arrest of 10 people in Rutsiro District on Wednesday, February 24.

The suspects were found mining coltan and wolfram in a concessions located in Tangabo Cell of Manihira Sector, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Bonaventure Twizere Karekezi, the Police spokesperson for the Western region, said.  Read more...

NYAGATARE: Police seize 11 bales of smuggled clothes

Police in Nyagatare arrested two people in connection with smuggling second-hand clothes locally known as Caguwa.

The two suspected smugglers were arrested on Tuesday, February 23, in Nkoma Cell, Tabagwe Sector with 11 bales of Caguwa, which were sneaked into Rwanda from the neighbouring Uganda, through a porous border.  Read more...

GISAGARA: Police recovers four stolen cows

Police and other security organs in Gisagara District recovered four cows, which are some of those stolen from different farmers in the district.

The cows were recovered on Monday, February 22, from one Jean Bosco Bahati, a butcher operating in Shenyeri village, Kibirizi cell of Kibirizi sector. Bahati escaped.  Read more...
