KWIBUKA: Police reassures security during commemoration period

Rwanda National Police (RNP) has reassured the general public of safety and security during the  27th commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

This Wednesday, April 7, Rwandans and friends of Rwanda across the globe will come together to pay tribute to more than one million innocent lives massacred in just one hundred days, 27 years ago.

RNP spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera called upon the population to "stand together against any form of action aimed at genocide ideology, negating and denial of the Genocide."  Read more...

KIGALI: Over 100 arrested for holding wedding reception, mass gathering

On Sunday, April 4, Rwanda National Police (RNP) showed to the media 110 people flouting the national COVID-19 prevention measures.

They include 60 people, who were arrested on Saturday in CENETRA hotel located in Kabuga Cell, Rusororo Sector of Gasabo District, where they were holding a wedding reception.

Other 50 violators were on Sunday found at Chez Ndamage in Kiyovu Cell, Nyarugenge Sector in Nyarugenge District where they had gathered for a religious service.  Read more...

WESTERN PROVINCE: Police seize 11 bales of smuggled clothes

The Rwanda National Police (RNP) Revenue Protection Unit (RPU) intercepted four people, on Monday, April 5 in two separate operations in Rubavu and Karongi districts smuggling 11 bales of second-hand clothes commonly known as caguwa.

The bales had been sneaked into Rwanda from the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Two of the smugglers; Diogene Zirimunda, 50, and Simeon Nsengimana, 26, were intercepted at around 6pm in Kivumu, Gisenyi Sector of Rubavu District with eight bales of used clothes.  Read more...

Kwibuka27: Rwandan police peacekeepers commemorate

Rwandan Police peacekeepers deployed in various UN missions, on Wednesday, April 7, joined the rest of Rwandans and friends of Rwanda to pay tribute to more than one million people massacred during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

The remembrance was held separately in different Rwanda Formed Police Unit (FPU) camps in compliance with the COVID-19 preventive guidelines.

The peacekeepers converged in different halls of their respective camps to ensure social distancing as they followed Kwibuka 27 back home, on Rwanda Television.  Read more...

RWAMAGANA: Trio arrested with counterfeit money

Rwanda National Police (RNP), on Tuesday April 7, arrested three people in Karenge Sector, Rwamagana District with counterfeit money amounting to Frw397, 000.

The suspects arrested in Nkongi Village of Kangamba Cell are identified as Eric Dusengimana, 28, Seraphine Mukandera, 28  and Chantal Nyirambarushimana, 35.

According to the Eastern Region Police Spokesperson, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Hamdun Twizeyimana, the suspects were apprehended in partnership with local leaders following a tip-off by the area residents.  Read more...

Three arrested in operations against drug dealers

On April 8, Rwanda National Police (RNP) arrested three suspected drug traffickers in separate operations conducted in Gicumbi and Nyamasheke districts.

The suspects include one Emmanuel Nzayisenga, 25, who was arrested red-handed in Murambo, Miyove Cell of Miyove Sector, Gicumbi District with 28kgs of cannabis.

Two others; Bizibu Cyiza, 40, and Jeannette Mukabutera, 48, were arrested in Kigarama Village, Kigabiro Cell of Nyabitekeri Sector in Nyamasheke District with 1,073 pellets of cannabis.  Read more...

Seized narcotics, illicit drinks disposed of in Burera

Over 30kgs of cannabis and 476 litres of illicit gin commonly known as Kanyanga seized from traffickers and local dealers in Burera District, were disposed of on Friday, April 9.

The narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances were seized in separate Rwanda National Police (RNP) operations conducted in the last three months.

The public destruction exercise was held in Kinihira Village, Bungwe Cell of Bungwe Sector and witnessed by RNP, RIB, local leaders and residents.  Read more...
