Football: Rwanda beat Kenya in EAPCCO Games

Rwanda National Police beat their counterparts of Kenya 3-1 in the opening football match of the maiden Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO) games, played this Sunday at Mukono Christian University in Uganda.

RNP, represented by Police FC, broke the deadlock in the tenth minute through striker Isonga Isae, who utilized Mustapha's well curved cross to make it 1-0.

Kenya brought the match back to square few minutes later after an error from Police defenders.

RNP errors, however, were collected as they looked solid in the second half. The reward for this paid off when Yves Manishimwe made it 2-1 through a free-kick.

Kenya could have made it 2-2 few minutes later but they were denied by Police goalkeeper, Marcel Nzarora, who punched the ball off the bar.

Mohammed Mushimiyimana made it 3-1 in the 73rd minute through a thunderbolt in front of the cheering Rwandan community in Uganda and Ugandans.

Rwanda Police will take on Uganda Police on Tuesday. Should they win, they will be crowned champions in the football category.

Rwanda National Police is also represented in EAPCCO games by athletes and firearms shooters.

Participating countries in all games are, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Sudan, South Sudan and Kenya and Uganda, the host.

During the flagging off of the games, Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel K. Gasana, EAPCCO chairman, said: "The games are very useful in cementing relationships between men and women of the EAPCCO Police Institutions."

Games, he said, encourage the spirit of being competitive, which is good for health and wellbeing. e games on an annual basis with the objective of keeping our police officers connected.”

It is expected that games will be part of the recommendations of the forthcoming EAPCCO AGM, which would be forwarded to AFRIPOL so as they become an African region event for the police institutions.
