[PHOTOS]: Minister Kaboneka inaugurates Police facilities constructed by residents in Nyamasheke
The Minister of Local Government Francis Kaboneka has hailed the existing good partnership between members of public, Police and local government entities, which has made enormous contribution in prevailing security and peace.
The minister was speaking in Nyamasheke District, yesterday, where he inaugurated various facilities constructed for Rwanda National Police (RNP) by the residents of Nyamasheke as a gesture of partnership in policing.
The inaugurated District Police Unit of Nyamasheke, which also houses the Police station of Ruharambuga, and Kanjongo Police station as well as staff-quarters for officers, were constructed at a tune of over Rwf42 million, which is a contribution by the residents and the district.
The staff quarters with a mess, have the capacity to accommodate about 50 officers.
The event was also graced by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Administration and Personnel, Juvenal Marizamunda.
“The partnership is evident is all aspects of community policing, human security activities and even your role in constructing police structures to support the crime prevention efforts and the welfare of the officers,” Minister Kaboneka said.
He also noted that such ideals of citizens’ involvement and ownership continue to positively impact on the lives of everyone, and a good basis for safety and security that the country continues to enjoy.
Minister Kaboneka noted that security has been general achieved and as such, it is a duty of everyone to sustain it by sharing information on potentials threats with security organs.
Minister Kaboneka also reminded residents to improve their hygiene in their localities and homes to prevent diseases that might arise out of unhygienic conditions, which can also cause insecurity.
DIGP Marizamunda reiterated the role of the public in crime prevention.
He said that RNP remains focused in ensuring the safety and security of the country in partnership with the people, and to continue supporting community development efforts.
Under the community policing efforts, the public have also supported the RNP efforts in infrastructure and welfare development.
In February this year, residents of Gatsibo District contributed about Rwf87 million, which was spent on the construction of nine Police stations and their quarters, and the District Police Unit of Gatsibo.
Similar facilities have been constructed in Kinyinya, Gikomero and Gisozi, all in Gasabo District, among others.
