[PHOTO STORY]: SOS Children’s Villages pupils acquainted with police services
Pupils of SOS Children’s Villages located in Kacyiru Sector in Gasabo District paid a tour to Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru, yesterday, to understand various policing duties.
They interacted with officers and given a grand tour in various RNP departments including that of Community Policing, Centre of Excellence on Gender Based Violence and Child Abuse, and the Fire and Rescue Brigade.
They were accompanied by the school headmistress, Marie Rose Nduwimbabazi.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Jean Baptiste Seminega, the Commanding Officer for Fire and Rescue Brigade gave them tips on how to prevent fire outbreak in their homes such as not playing with electric gadgets, and showed them some of the equipment the force uses to put out fire or to response in case of disasters.
At the Centre of Excellence on Gender Based Violence and Child Abuse, and Community Policing department, they were enlightened on child rights and their role to report crimes as well as abuses they face or witness.
On her part, the headmistress said: “We visit Police so that these children understand their rights and know what to do and where to go in case their rights are abused. It is also a good lesson to them to know and feel free and friendly to the police and to grow up as patriots understanding their role in security and development of their country.”
It is the second time SOS Children’s Villages has brought their pupils to learn about Police, the first time being in 2013.
