Gicumbi: Police recover stolen motorcycle, suspect arrested
Police in Gicumbi District say they arrested one Jean Paul Rukundo in connection with the recent theft of a motorcycle in Kigali.
Rukundo was arrested on November 12 in Kiziba cell of Nyamiyaga sector with the stolen motorcycle.
The motorcycle registration number RD 290Y went missing in Gikondo Sector of Kicukiro District, recently.
Inspector of Police (IP) Innocent Gasasira, the Northern region Police spokesperson confirmed the arrest, and said the suspect is being detained at Rutare Police station as investigations continue.
“After the victim reported the theft case in Kigali where he was allegedly waylaid by unknown people and forcefully took his commercial motorcycle after assaulting him, all district police units, as usual, were informed,” IP Gasasira said.
“We received information that Rukundo, the prime suspect, could be hiding in Gicumbi, where he was indeed arrested Kiziba cell, Nyamiyaga sector,” he added.
“The motorcyclist and witnesses had identified the suspected thieves, and it eased investigations. Arrangements have been made for the motorcycle to be returned to the owners.”
