Karongi: Stolen property recovered
Police and investigators in Karongi District have recovered computers that were stolen recently from a Chinese road construction firm in Gatsibo District.
The computers and other accessories were recovered on September 12, from the suspected thief.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Innocent Gasasira, the Western region Police spokesperson identified the suspect, who has since been taken into custody, as a 27-year-old Gilbert Ndahayo.
Ndahayo was an employee of the Chinese firm; Hunan Road and Bridge Construction Company Limited Group (HRBCCLG) currently constructing Gatsibo-Kayonza road.
"When the company reported the theft case in Gatsibo, and through information sharing, it was revealed that the suspected had escaped and hiding in Karongi," CIP Gasasira said.
"Police and investigators in Karongi worked together to locate and arrest Ndahayo in Rubengera Sector. He later led them to where he had hidden the stolen electronics in Gacaca Cell," he added.
Theft under article 300 of the penal code attracts a prison sentence of between six months and two years and a fine of two to five times the value of what was stolen.
