Police FC triumph over Rayon Sports to go second
Police Football Club climbed two spaces to the second place on the Azam Rwanda Premier League log thanks to a 1-0 triumph over Rayon Sports on Friday.
It was Day 11 as Police FC and Rayon Sports locked horns at a fully-parked Nyamirambo stadium. It was an intense match as the visitors, on a number of occasion, looked vulnerable but the goalkeeper Aime Bariteze saved the moment.
Like they say, 'save the best for last,' the errors were corrected in the 90th minute of the match through a Jean Paul Uwimbabazi's magic thunderbolt, which left Rayon Sports' goalie wandering.
And of course, you have to credit Albert Mphande's tactical changes in the second period to cover the loopholes that nearly cost them in the first half.
Osee Iyabivuze was sacrificed for the match winner Uwimbabazi at the start of the second period, Antoine Dominique Ndayishimiye replaced Ndayisaba Hamidou in the 76th minute while Isaie Songa gave way for Kevin Hakizimana.
"Each of these players gave his all towards this victory. We read the game and players implemented the instructions well, and in the end we stood tall," Mphande said.
He added: "Knowing that this is a strong team especially up-front, we focused much on defending but also on positioning when we win the ball, and in the end the system paid off."
Out of the ten played matches so far, Police FC won six, drew twice and with two losses.
It now has 20 points, two behind table leaders APR FC.
