GATSIBO: Suspected thief arrested with stolen motorcycle

Police in Gatsibo District have recovered a stolen motorcycle hours after it was stolen in Murundi Sector of Kayonza District.

The motorcycle, plate number RF 752B was recovered from the suspected thief identified as Christophe Bizimana, 25, who was arrested on Sunday, March 20, in Akajevuba Village, Remera Cell, Rugarama Sector in Gatsibo District.

The motorcycle belong to one Geoffrey Mwesigye, a taxi-moto operator in Kayonza District.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Hamduni Twizeyimana, the Eastern region Police spokesperson, said that the motorcycle was reported stolen at about 10am on Sunday, in Murindi, Kayonza District.

"During investigations, Police received a call from a resident in Rwagitima trading center at about 6pm, about a man (Bizimana) who was selling a motorcycle but suspected it was stolen. Fortunately, Police found the motorcycle to be the same that was stolen earlier that morning in Kayonza District. The motorcycle was impounded and Bizimana taken into custody," said SP Twizeyimana.

Bizimana was at the time selling the motorcycle at Frw400,000.

The suspect was handed over to RIB at Rugarama station for further investigations.

Article 166 of law determining offences and penalties in general states that; any person convicted of theft is liable to imprisonment for a term of not less than one (1) year and not more than two (2) years and a fine of not less than Frw1 million and not more than Frw2 million, community service in a period of six (6) months or only one of these penalties.
