The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), on Friday, October 14, officially bid farewell to the Field Office Police Coordinator (FOPC) for the Central Equatorial State, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) John Baptist Claude Murangira, who concluded his two-year tour-of-duty.
The Central Equatorial State includes South Sudan's capital Juba, which also hosts the headquarters of the UNMISS.
The UNMISS Police Commissioner, Madam Christine Fossen, while speaking at the farewell event, thanked him for his "immense contribution" to the mission mandate.
The event was also attended by the UNPOL senior management members.
"These have been two years of success in line with the implemention of the Revitalized Peace Agreement in Juba Field Office. Thank you for your outstanding performance in serving the UNMISS, and great support to the people of South Sudanese and particularly, the South Sudan National Police Service," Madam Fossen said.
She encouraged him to maintain the spirit and wished him the best of luck.
ACP Murangira was also presented with the "Outstanding Leadership Award" in recognition of his hard work and outstanding performance.
The FOPC has been overseeing all the operations for the UN Police component in the Field Office, including protection of civilians, patrols, escort duties, building capacity of local law enforcement agencies and community policing groups.
The FOPC also coordinates all activities with other UN substantive sections and South Sudan National Police Service (SSNPS).
ACP Murangira thanked the UNMISS and UNPOL leadership, and the entire UN Staff and sections, whom he worked with and supported him to effectively executive the mandate.
"It has been a journey to assist the people of South Sudan towards a better future through protection of civilians and capacity building. We have an obligation to assist humankind the same way you may need assistance when need arises. Continue with that spirit," ACP Murangira said.
