Marine station command course opens in Rubavu

Fourteen Police officers have started a two-week Marine Station Command Course as Rwanda National Police (RNP) continues to build its capacity in maritime operations.

The course conducted by RNP in partnership with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), was officially opened by Commissioner of Police CP Rafiki Mujiji, the Commandant of the National Police College (NPC), on Monday, May 6, in Rubavu District.

CP Mujiji said the course falls within the RNP strategic capacity building plan.

"This specific marine station command course aims at building marine command leadership and management with knowledge and skills that will make them good marine commanders," CP Mujiji said.

He appreciated the existing partnership between UNITAR and RNP, and thanked them for supporting law enforcement agencies towards professionalism.

The Commanding Officer for Police Marine, ACP Erias Mwesigye, said that the course is one of the five training programmes identified jointly with UNITAR, to build the command of the sea.
