Motorcycle theft suspects arrested

Three men suspected of stealing a motorcycle in Kirehe district were arrested yesterday in Mahama sector.

Felicien Rwalinda, 26, Alphonse Niyigena, 26, and one only identified as Masengesho, 24 were apprehended in Kamombo cell.

They are currently detained at Kirehe Police station as investigations continue.

The suspects allegedly ambushed the owner identified as Francois Umuraza, who was transporting a passenger and assaulted him before fleeing with the motorcycle.

Police in Kirehe said the suspects stopped Umuraza in Kamombo while transporting a passenger and ordered him off his motorcycle.

When he refused, Police said, they tried to strangle him but left him unconscious.

Area residents, who witnessed the act, informed their colleagues in the direction where the suspects were headed, who intercepted them and recovered the motorcycle.

They handed the suspects to Police. The motorcycle was also handed over to the owner.

Senior Supt. Benoit Nsengiyumva, Police spokesperson for the Eastern region thanked residents for the noble act and urged them to continue with the spirit.

He appealed to the population to strengthen night patrols and always share information in time so that the stolen equipment are recovered in time and suspects arrested.
