In an effort to further maintain and ensure peace and security in the country, especially in the festive season, security organs conducted an operation in different parts of the country on Tuesday seizing narcotics and illicit liqour and apprehended suspects.

The intercepted drugs include 246 liters of illicit brew, 647 rolls of cannabis and different items used in brewing the illicit beer.

The drugs were recovered in Gasabo, Ngoma, Kirehe and Bugesera districts.

Senior Superintendent Benoit Nsengiyumva, the Eastern Region Police Spokesperson said the operation aimed at fighting and preventing crimes in general and drug abuse in particular.

“People have different manners in which they cerebrate especially during
the festive season, some visit family members and friends while others
might choose to consume drugs like cannabis which definitely affects their attitude thus impacting on security of other people around,”
said SSP Nsengiyumva.

He added that the operation also intended to help citizens cerebrate and
begin New Year in a more peaceful and calm environment.

The Eastern Police Spokesperson appealed to citizens to join security organs in the battle against all sorts of crimes by sharing information that lead to arrest of criminals.
