Police Football Club win Peace Cup

Goals from Jibrin Akuki and Eric Nsabimana in the second half guided Police Football Club to 2-1 triumph over Bugesera FC in the 2023/2024 Peace Cup finals played on Wednesday, May 1, at Kigali Pele stadium.

Both sides had few chances in the first period, with the second half left for the best team to stand out.

Akuki broke the deadlock in the 57th minute thanks to Bugesera FC defensive error. Nsabimana doubled the lead in the 65th minute after jumping high to utilize a corner kick to head the ball past Bugesera goalkeeper, Patience Niyongira to make it 2-0, sending the fully parked Kigali Pele stadium into wild celebrations.

Bugesera's consolation came through Ssentongo Farouk. The law enforcers' triumph in Peace Cup, their second, means that they will represent Rwanda in the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup.

IGP receives the champions

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Felix Namuhoranye later received the new Peace Cup champions at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru and thanked them for the deserved victory.

He commended them for delivering on their promise to win a trophy this season, and pledged further support in building a competitive team.

This is Police FC's second trophy this season having won the Heroes Cup after beating APR 2-1 in finals in February.
