The Rwanda National Police joined the rest of Rwandans on Saturday in monthly community exercise, Umuganda in various development activities.
In Kigali, Police officers attached to the general headquarters in Kacyiru cleared bushes and water channels in Kacyiru.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Administration and Personnel, Juvenal Marizamunda, speaking shortly after the exercise, urged the officers to always be active in such home-grown development initiatives.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Elias Mwesigye, the Commandant for the General Headquarters also said the role of the force goes beyond ensuring safety and security to protecting infrastructure and environment.
In Rulindo district, Police officers joined residents of Base sector to create a one kilometre marrum road.
The exercise in Rulindo was presided over by Minister for Presidency, Venantie Tugireyezu and other security organs.
In Kayonza District, Police joined residents of Kabarondo sector to create a road linking residents of Rusera cell to Kabarondo main market.
The exercise in Kabarondo also included the public destruction of illicit drugs including one hundred litres of kanyanga and 103 kilogrammes of cannabis.
