COVID-19: Three hospitality establishments closed over violations
Three hospitality establishments have closed in City of Kigali and owners or managers arrested for breaching the government directives meant to prevent further spread of COVID-19.
The establishments are Cuppa Coffee in Downtown, Nyarugenge District, Cincinnati and Miami Family in Niboyi and Gikondo, respectively, both in Kicukiro District.
At Cuppa Coffee, authorities, on Friday, found 21 youngsters holding a birthday party in a congested room. Read more
COVID-19: Police issues fresh warning against social parties
Rwanda National Police (RNP) warns the general public against social gatherings and parties, which are prohibited in this period, as they constitute a violation of government directives meant to prevent further spread of COVID-19.
The caution follows a party held on August 15, at 'The Retreat Hotel' in Kiyovu.
About 35 people gathered at the hotel for the party dubbed "Les Samedis Sympas," which was organised by one Juan Nsabiye, a fashion designer, in collaboration with The Retreat Hotel. Read more
About 30 smugglers intercepted in Rubavu
Increased operations against fraud in Rubavu District intercepted about 30 people on Thursday, August 27, as they smuggled 28 sacks of assorted goods into the country.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Bonaventure Twizere Karekezi, the Police spokesperson for the Western region, said that the smugglers had 12 bales and 497 kilogrammes of second-hand clothes, 357 kilogrammes of used shoes and assorted liquors and energy drinks. Read more
Bugesera: Police recovers stolen motorcycle
Police in Bugesera District recovered a motorcycle, which was stolen mid-this year in Ruhango District.
The motorcycle, TVS registration number RB 719P, belonging to Jean Baptiste Ndikuryayo, which was reported stolen in May, was recovered in Rweru Sector on Thursday, August 27, from the suspected thief identified as Fils Turatsinze, 31. Read more
Sacks of skin bleaching products seized from smugglers in Lake Kivu
Three sacks full of assorted skin bleaching products and one bale of second-hand clothes were seized from smugglers in Rubavu District as they attempted to sneak them into Rwanda through Lake Kivu.
They were impounded during the operation conducted on Wednesday, August 26, by the Revenue Protection Unit (RPU), a Rwanda National Police (RNP) arm charged with fighting smuggling and fraud. Read more

Kamonyi: Police arrest man selling narcotics in his shop
Police in Kamonyi District arrested a man on Tuesday, August 25, who was allegedly using his shop to sell cannabis to consumers.
Jean Paul Niyonsaba, was arrested at his shop located in Gacurabwenge Sector, Gihinga Cell where he was also found selling alcohol and narcotics to his customers. Read more
