On Wednesday, December 17, the Rwanda National Police (RNP) continued its “Turindane–Tugereyo Amahoro” road safety campaign in City of Kigali, engaging public transport drivers to promote responsible driving especially during the festive season.
The outreach took place at Nyabugogo bus terminal where transporters were sensitized on safer road use and warned against traffic violations that cause accidents and loss of lives.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Emmanuel Kayigi, the spokesperson for Traffic and Road Safety department, advised public transport drivers to be mindful of common violations and encouraged them to uphold discipline, especially during the holiday season.

"Driving under the influence of alcohol is extremely reckless and poses significant dangers; we have also witnessed fatal accidents during the festive season resulting from speeding or using a mobile phone while driving. It is critical to adhere to road signs and traffic regulations to ensure safe arrival at your destinations," SP Kayigi said.
He urged them to foster a sense of collective responsibility by discouraging unsafe driving practices among their fellow drivers in order to safeguard the reputation of the profession.
“A driver who operate a vehicle while intoxicated, uses a mobile phone while driving, or changes direction without due care puts lives at risk and tarnishes the image of those who comply with the law,” he added.
He noted that safety on the road depends on each user protecting themselves while also safeguarding others.
